Laura Colombo

Laura Colombo is an Italian sociologist specialising in social inequalities, social mobility and social research methodology. After completing a master's degree in Sociology, she obtained a doctorate at the University of Trento, where she pursued advanced studies in quantitative methods, statistical inference and the construction of interpretative models applied to complex social phenomena.

Since 2016, she has worked for one of Italy's leading private polling institutes, focusing primarily on data analysis and the modelling of electoral behaviour. Her work involves identifying which variables have greater explanatory power and estimating how political behaviour will evolve through statistical techniques and predictive models.

Her work is chiefly concerned with understanding the mechanisms linking social conditions, economic transformations and political orientations. She analyses how income, education, age, geographical location, social mobility, networks of relationships and perceptions of safety influence electoral support and the formation of public opinion, distinguishing structural effects from contingent variations. She is regarded as a researcher with a strongly quantitative approach geared towards the construction of explanatory models.
