Giusto Piedimonte is an independent developer and researcher in artificial intelligence, with a particular interest in autonomous agents, artificial memory and software systems capable of collaborating with human beings.
Originally from Sardinia, he moved to Pisa after winning the national finals of the Italian Olympiad in Informatics, securing tuition-free admission to a Tuscan university.
He then studied Computer Science at the University of Pisa, exploring both algorithms and human–computer interaction in depth.
His work focuses on the design of intelligent agents rather than on language models themselves.
He is the creator of the open-source project Muffin, which began as a personal research laboratory for experimenting with architectures for memory, introspection and collaboration between human beings and artificial intelligence.
For Piedimonte, the value of AI lies not in simply generating text, but in building systems capable of understanding context, retaining knowledge and assisting people in decision-making.
Alongside computing, he pursues interests in the philosophy of mind, neuroscience and cognitive psychology, disciplines he considers indispensable to designing more effective artificial systems.
He is critical of the anthropomorphisation of artificial intelligence and believes that terms such as thinking and reasoning describe only by analogy processes that belong to a different category.
In his view, AI is above all a tool for amplifying human judgement, not replacing it.
He now works as an independent consultant and is developing a platform designed to make businesses truly AI-native, transforming data, procedures and operational knowledge into a resource accessible to intelligent agents.
His research focuses on the intersection of software design, business organisation and human–machine collaboration.
